I just built this new computer (my twin brother actually is the guru..but is now back in Ohio) and it won't boot to Windows (98) from the c: drive. During startup it says ,"Disk Boot Failure Insert System Disk and Press Enter". The computer is Asus MB, AMD 1 Gig Processor, 256 MB SDRAM, GeForce Video Card w/ 64MB, 30 gig WD Hard Drive. I've tried changing the boot sequence in BIOS but was unsuccessful. I've reinstalled Windows several times and still get the same boot failure message. Also during boot up, just after the POST, it pauses with what looks like "jibberish" (i.e. c: Rem TSHOOT *&^%((__*) all the way down the screen. Then it goes to list of options (boot w/ CDROM Support, etc), which I choose, then it goes to Windows.....I'm very new at this and not sure what's going on. My brother believes I may have a faulty HD or I'm having problems with ATA100.....I need step by step instructions please.....this young jedi is in search of the force......

I running basically the same system except I have a Abit kt7 mobo and 128 of ram. I can't get my passed A:\ to load win98se. How do I do that?? I formatted and Fidisk OK. Just can't load win98.
Sounds like you have something in your bios not right.Might check it out slowly to make sure its all correct.
Sounds like you will need to re-format the drive and install the OS fresh: In your BIOS, make sure it is set to boot from the A: drive first.
Put your Win98 boot disk in and start the computer. Let it boot with CD ROM support, at the A: prompt, type in: FORMAT C: (use the space), say yes to the warning and let it run. After it formats, it's a good idea to reboot. Let it boot with the CD ROM support. Put your Winders CD in. At the A: prompt, type in: D: (or what ever letter your CD ROM is) and hit enter then type: SETUP
This should get you rolling again.
