Hi all,
I'm trying to uninstall Diskeeper 5.03 so I can install Diskeeper 6 trial. Part of the installation automatically uninstalls version 5 and I keep getting the following errors:

{NEW_STRING41} Diskeeper Workstation will only install on Windows2000 Professiomal. Setup will now exit.

Then:

Internal error 2744. UninstallMSIDirectly,msiexec, /x {C4AB5180-7B79-11D3-A8FB-00104B326902}

I'm assuming it's a Windows installer error but can't seem to find this error anywhere on the web. I've reinstalled sp1 and the Windows installer itself with no luck.

I've tried to uninstall Diskeeper 5 using the Add/Remove applet in Control Panel, same errors so I'm sure it has nothing to do with DK6 but DK5 itself.

I am running Win2kPro w/sp1. I've even reinstalled sp1.

System info:

K6-2 500
Soyo 5EMA+
256mb
WIn2kPro 2195 w/sp1

Any ideas ?

I'm using Diskeeper 5.03 on my system now, and never had that problem occure yet while trying to uninstall it. Anyhow, here is my suggestion.

Try reinstalling Diskeeper 5.03 to the same location where you uninstalled it from and try the uninstall again... That's what I do when something won't uninstall and usually solves the problem..

Hmmmm, another thought just came to mind if you're using NT4 or Win2K.... Try stopping Disk Keeper Service after reinstalling it and then uninstalling it. There is a service that starts when you boot into the desktop on NT4 and Win2K.

Go into "Service" and stop the service listed as "Diskeeper" and then try uninstalling it.

Thanks NDC. I stopped the sevice but still get the same errors. I've also reinstalled it with no luck. The problem is that I can't uninstall it.

I'm thinking it's more of a Windows installer error than Diskeeper itself. I tried removing the directory and searching the registry for all traces of Diskeeper but was a little skittish about deleting all the keys (there's a crapload)

I like DK5.03 but really wanted to try 6.

Thanks again. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Just one more thing. I notice in my Add/Remove program that there are 2 buttons for Diskeeper 5. (1) reinstall (2) uninstall....

This might be a very stupid question but, are you sure you're pressing the "uninstall button"? The reason I ask is because it seems rather strange that you're getting the "Diskeeper Workstation will only install on Windows2000 Professiomal. Setup will now exit" message.

Just a thought....

In my Add/Remove I have 2 buttons, change and remove. Both do the same thing, bring up the installation dialog with the choices install, repair, uninstall. None make any difference though.

I'm guessing it's looking for a specific version of the WindowsInstaller and mine's not it?

Yeah, this one's really got me stumped. I have no other ideas what the problem could be... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

Thanks for the input though http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Anybody know where I can download the most recent version of the Windows Installer package? I'm clicking in circles at Micro$oft's site http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

You mentioned you were installing Diskeeper v6 and it automatically uninstalls v5...
You have tried just uninstalling v5 independently haven't you? Because it sounds like it's trying to *install* something rather than uninstall.
I've tried to emulate on a couple of computers at work by uninstalling with no luck.
If this doesn't work then delete the Diskeeper files and remove all the registry keys.

*Remember to back up everything first though*
