Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : I have a VxD error/problem....I have the exact error message, help please!!
Hi,
After re-booting windows (the dreaded millenium version http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif )i have recieved the following message, please advise me what to do next as i'm not familiar with this......
Terminating Thread due to a stack overload problem.
A VxD,possibly recently installed, has consumed too much stack space.Increase the settings of MinSPs in SYSTEM.INI or remove recently installed VxD's.There are currently 5 SPs allocated. <end>
.......So,i run msconfig and go into 'static VxD's' and the following list are ALL enabled.Which ones should i uncheck to disable and what will happen if i do?(what are they??)
VnetSup.vxd
NDIS.vxd
JavaSup.vxd
VnetBios.vxd
Vredir.vxd
dfs.vxd
Navap.vxd
......thanx!

lol, I will find a good explanation for you... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif
As for the problem, I would add it into the [386enh] section at the bottom and see how that works. If it does not work then...??? More hunting...

This tells you exactly what a VxD is. It is a virtual device driver for Windows.

This is a similar error I saw a while back in Win95. Same scenario and since ME is just a sooped up 95...
Hope this helps,
Dave

......Ok,so BFlurie advises to take a look in the 386 folder in SYSTEM.INI,and look for MinSps=4
I don't have it listed??
Should i manually enter it as the above or should i "increase the size" like it tells me in the error (blue) screen, and enter it as MinSps=8.Windows apparently defaults it at =4
Now,given i don't know much about the VxD 'thing' http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif i'm still not sure what to do and just incase it makes a difference to how i should configure it i'll give you a little more info on the spec of my system;
Pentium III,1000mhz,256 MB Ram with SB LIVE & ATI RADEON SDR 32mb graphics.
(If you need to know a more in-depth spec let me know)
......more to the point i'd deeeeeeply appreciate a low down on what this VxD is & does!! (somebody tell me please!)

i applied it to the 386 sect only to find upon re-boot it's gone again!!??
.......what now?
(10 minutes later!)
....i just took a look in my add/remove prog's and have uninstalled the following in hope that this may be what caused the stack overload/error....Did i need these? If so i have them on disc.I don't know what they do,maybe someone does http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
INTEL ATA storage driver (??)
INTEL security driver (??)
