I installed a new cd-rw to my Gateway 650 Athlon. Primary master is 20 gig hd (drive C). Primary slave is 20 gig hd (drive D). Secondary master is cd-rom (original equipment..drive E). Secondary slave is new cd-rw (drive F?) Problem is I cannot see or access drive F in Windows Explorer or My Computer. If I go into device manager, both drives are there under cd-rom and one is E and one is F. I checked the system bios info and secondary master and slave are set to auto configure. Both have power and I changed cabling, position of drives on cable, master-slave settings on drives. Whatever unit is set to drive E in device manager is the one that works. Can anyone help? thanks
You have to set your OS to see more drive letter's, If You have config.sys in your C:\ You could try to make a new line there:
lastdrive=z
And boot up. I know this works for W95 - W98SE. Really dunno for WME. In W2K it's a nogo.
If this didn't help, sorry, I'm using W2K so my info on basic OS-settings for W9X is a bit rusty... http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Also, if you have tweakui installed look in the my computer section and make sure all the drives have check marks...
