we have a Pentium 1 90 Hhz Packard Bell. we have reformatted the HD and when put the boot disk and restart the cdrom drivers are not found. The cdrom was working fine before we reformatted. so we know that the cdrom works fine.

Is it a pb restore disk or a normal windows disk?

Is it win 95, 98 or ME

And do any lights appear on the floppy disk ie. is it reading floppys ok.

Try a startup disk off a win98 machine or go to www.bootdisk.com (http://www.bootdisk.com) and make a bootdisk to support the cdrom.

Look here: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Lakes/8774/

there is a good chance you will find the driver somewhere around.

when the computer is booting it says cdrom found. then when it reads the floppy we tell it to start computer with cd-rom support. when its trying to find it then it says no device found. it was win95 and we are trying to upgrade to win98. the lights to the cdrom do come on.

If you are using an upgrade version of win98,then you must install win 95 first or it will not install.

Wrong. you can still do a clean install, it will just ask for you to put your 95 disk in to prove you had it.
I had to fix up a packerd hell once, first off when I did get 98 on it it ran with "drive c is using ms-dos compatibility mode" couldn't ever get it out of that. but, if you really still want it you'll have to download the drivers for the cd-rom drive and install them on a floppy boot disk (I used an MS-DOS one, but that shouldn't be necessary, a 9x one should do) as the CD-ROMs that come with those are NOT supported on the windows boot disk, they're fine after windows is running though. sorry I don't still have a link for the drivers, but I got rid of everything related to that sys I hated it so much.
