I've been wondering ... besides the onboard IDE controller on the motherboard, can a PCI Controller card be installed that will give me ADDITIONAL primary and secondary IDE channels - allowing me to install, say, a total of 5 hard drives and 3 DVD/CD-ROMS?

Yes each ***-on card will give room for four more IDE devices(just make sure you use an adequate p/s). Check out the Promise cards here (http://www.promise.com) .

The "***-on" above should have been "add-on" Might "***" well put the double post to good use. Sorry LOL!

Hey, if you get the ABIT BE6-II mainboard, you can have a total of 8 devices. Abit BE6-II mainboards come with 4 IDE channels, and can connect up to 8 IDE devices.

I've also had experience using a Soltek mainboard with a High Point DMA66 PCI IDE controller, and it worked great! Now that I have the ABIT BE6-II mainboard, the HPT66 card has become useless since the ABIT mainboard already has 4 IDE channels. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Thanks all - I'm looking at a Promise card to put on a 250W PSU with great ventilation. Hope it works!
