Ok, Windows can correctly recognize my drive and installs its own plug and play driver for it and I've got Adaptec's EZ CD Creator Version 3.5c and DirectCD version 2.5D
Its a UDMA/33 Ricoh 6x/4x/24x drive, but I can't seem to burn anything @ faster than 2x. I've went to the drive's properties and my only choices were 1x or 2x, what the holy moly?! I've been to Ricoh's website, but couldn't find any updated drivers for this CDRW.
Anybody whose got a Ricoh burner, can you please give me the link were I can download the lastest driver for the drive and update for Adaptec's software. Thanx, appreciate it.

It may be just in the software. I remember reading somewhere that EasyCD Creator requires you to run a test on the CD-R/RW drive in order to burn faster than 2x... I haven't had a chance to play around with the software (yet.... 20 more days to wait), but someone out there might be able to tell you where that option is.
In most cases, the drivers installed from Windows should work with your drive. It's just a matter of finding the right settings in the software you're using.
Hope this helps!

Plucky,
You need to visit the adaptec website and download the update for the software so it fully recognizes your burner. After you do that it will give you the other options of 4x and 6x burning speeds (that version of cd creator was made PRIOR to your model of burner.

I have the same drive and s/w. Under 'tools' then 'system tests' is a check on your sys (req's a blank cd but nothing is written) that should allow faster writing.
If your keen you could check out http://ext.ricoh.co.jp/cd-r/cgi/e-/ncdrw-de.html for the latest firmware upgrade (1.7).
I ran the ‘7060a17.exe’ file which backed up the orig ver 1.5 and all seems fine so far.

Aargh, stupid me, I shoulda known better it was the cheap cdrw disk I bought for $3.95 'cause it only supports 2x rewrites.
Now I can write and rewrite no problemo.
A question I can't seem to come to grips is how is it that I need a cd that needs to be 4x compatable in order for the burner to actually burn at 4x? Doesn't it seem odd that write speeds not only depend on the hardware of the burner, but the disc itself too?

It get's better, you'll come across some that are 6X that you have to burn at 1X so you don't make coasters. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
