Recently I haven't been able to copy any cd's due to a "power calibration error". What does this mean, and how can I fix it. I have a hp 7200plus and I have used cdrwin, adaptec and psxcopy. all of them said the same thing.

Is there anyone in here that can help me fix my problem? Or don't you people like me 'cause I'm from Amsterdam http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif ...?

Hi Amsterdamn-
I have never heard of this problem - but it sounds like the laser of the CDR is not meeting the required power to burn.- Just a guess.
Have you tried the manufacturers web site for white papers on the subject?

Hi Johnqp,
I've sent the hp people an e-mail, and am still waiting for a reply. Couldn't find an answer on their site. The exact error message is "power callibration error: power calibration area is full" does this ring any bells (to anyone)?
Thanx

have you tried using a different cd-r
Did you ever clean the laser lens? If you did maybe you knocked the laser out of alignment. From what I've read, cleaning it is a lot of hooey!

Welcome to SysOpt Amsterdamn. You will find a rhythm to SysOpt. This is a global community here and as such is subject to many different times zones. Your message was posted at 6:05 AM here on the west coast of Canada. Most of the people in here are either at work by 3 hours by this time in slightly previous time zones or just getting ready to go there here. SysOpt is a voluntary support forum. At that time of the morning over here in North America you will be lucky to find someone that has had experience with your detailed problem. We try hard to answer the problems we know about and even the problems that we haven't got a clue how to solve. This is how we learn.
Sometimes you just have to wait a little bit until just the right person comes online and has your answer or a clue to finding the information that you seek.
There is quite a collective of brain power in here. Stick around and enjoy. Hope to bump into you again soon.

oh! And I might even have an answer to this. Have you tried getting into Safe Mode and in to the Control Panel and System Properties. Click on the Device Manager tab and click on the + sign beside CD-ROM. Blow away all that is in there and re-boot your system. Windows will redetect your devices and load them up again.
This works for a lot of failing devices. When ever I set up a new machine I always check out the Device Manager in Safe Mode for Duplicate devices loaded on Setup. This will create minor conflicts within the devices. If you find anything duplicated in any of the device categories, blow them away and windows will redetect only one instance of each.
Cheers!
