Trying to help someone with a Compaq Prolinea 4/50 486DX2-50 16MB RAM 420MB HD and W95B OS. Everytime the PC is turned on it beeps (2x...2x) and the following appears on the black screen: 162 System Options Not Set, F1 Boot.
Is this a Compaq "thing", or, I presume there is something wrong. Any ideas of how to correct this?
Appreciate your help.

The BIOS is not setup for some reason. When the Compaq logo hits the screen, press F10 and this will take you into setup. If you are familure with the pheonix bios look to see what is wrong. possibly the boot order is not right.
CD-ROM
Removable Devices
Hard Drive
If you can set it up so that it boots but it won't do it 2 times in a row, the battery needs changing. An upgrade to the bios might help. I'll look for it on a CD I have and will let you know if there is one or not.
Cheers!

Start on this page with model number and what not. Look for the System Rom upgrade for the Compaq Prolinea. The download will be saved to a folder on your hard drive and when you double click on it it will prompt you for a floppy to make a bootable rom disk. Shut down you pc to a power cycle off. then with the floppy in the drive you turn on your machine and let it boot off the floppy. At no time disturb this proccess or you will have a pretty big paper weight.
Cheers!
