I have just put my system back together with new sound card CD-RW and DVD. This is what I have:
ABIT BX6 Rev 2 mbo
256 Ram
Quantum Fireball 13.6 H/D connected to ABIT Hot Rod 66 controller card
Seagate 6.2 H/D through ABIT card
S/B Live
56 k Zoom internal modem
Creative encore 6X DVD through IDE 1 as master
Creative CD-RW blaster CD-Studio through IDE 2 as master
Most things work, it seems.
But I cannot load the Prassi abCD for CD-RW because if I load it up when the system boots it gets stuck in a continuous re-boot cycle??????
Also I have Norton 2000 prfessional version (ha) and it reports my free RAM as no more than 95 megs even though nothing is open so what is sucking all my RAM ??????

is there a auto run feature on the install cd?
do you have control panel, system, device manager,cd-rom,properties,settings,auto insert [x] box checked ?
do you have a boot from cd-rom feature in your bios.
example** boot from cd,floppy,hdd?

Hi stu,
Which OS are you using?
Do you have a good backup of irreplacable stuff? Probably a good idea about now.
I think you are correct, something is hogging your memory. I would try the following:
1) Shut your computer down and reseat your memory, check all wiring and look for anything else that may have inadvertently been loostened, bumped, or otherwise changed.
2) Check in your Device Manager (boot in safe mode if you have to), look there for any device conflicts (yellow question marks are usually indicating some type of problem). If there are any probs there, delete the suspect equipment then do re-install, letting Windows find the hardware.
3) Be sure that you have the latest updates from Symantec and run your diagnostics, Disk Doctor, WinDoctor and speed disk.
4) Run Registry Sweep if you have it and get a copy of RegClean and run it.
5) If you have a backup and none of the above works, it may be a good idea to start fresh and reformat the hard drive, reinstall Windows and let Windows find and reassingn all the hardware.
Best of luck,

This may seem crazy but try disable Crashguard and clean sweap, then try again.

ok, it seems as though the software for the 'Creative' CDRW and the S/B Live software by 'Creative' conflict somehow so that if they are all loaded in together I get strange errors..... system continually re-boots, fatal exception errors etc etc
The RAM issue is a Norton thing it just sucks my RAM out when doing somtehing and then it doesnt clear it out odd .....
anyway few phone calls to come...
