I think changing your number is the best bet.

If you have dial back you can always start calling him see how he likes it. Give his number to police if you can get it, there must be something about harrassment somewhere.

Havent had the experience but doesnt sound pleasant.

You could start answering the phone "**your town/local" Police department - how can I help you?

WW, you have already had some very good advice. Here in Los Angeles the LAPD take a dim view of such activity, but especially if it is Internet related. In fact there is an on going .... let's just say that all in chat are not who they seem to be.

Sorry to hear about this! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Don't know about NZ laws, but it would seem to me that your local authorities working in tandem with your phone company should be able to comb through those records and flush out the perpetrator.

Keep a log of the exact dates and times this creep calls, so you can use as evidence if need be. Buy one of those Caller ID machines, maybe that would list it too.

Hope this guy gets nailed (umm, legally of course...)

Look in your phone book for instructions regarding harassment calls. Here in the US, we can punch in a code when the offender calls (like *36 or whatever, I don't recall the # right off hand) and this logs the caller's # with the phone company. After 3 times, they send the person a letter of warning. If it continues, they will then pursue legal action. Hopefully you have a similar system set up in NZ, and you can nab this loser before it goes too far.
Good luck.

WW. My anger with A**holes like this is thru the roof! I just last year went thru simular problems (my wife who is a school teacher had a student that was calling the house). I ended up getting the police involved after my phone call to his parents didnt accomplish anything! The police got it to stop and the court fines probably got the parents attention enough to make them heed my warning when he tried again about 6 months ago!

Nail the B*stard! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Definitely work with the phone company and local authorities on this. Most phone companies in the US offer caller ID & call blocking. If he switches phones on you, it's a hassle to keep adding numbers, but he has to keep finding a new one to try from too. You can also add blocked number rejection, meaning if the caller has their number blocked, they won't get thru.

I had a problem like this with someone in my former local sheriff's office. Once these services were available, it stopped.

Hi guys and gals
Thanks for input,
At 9.0 am this morning putting info in hands of local cop, (1 cop for area 30 x20 miles cost cutting on services!)
Also inform her school so they can watch out in case this perv turns up there.
Transfering message centre from office this acts as a answer machine and incomeing control, IE gives voice instructions as to what to do next like leave message or send fax.
Also requested caller ID this only costs a few bucks a month but the answer machine/message centre will then display phone numbers that calls come in on, if he uses the same phone the cops will nail him.
Also taken to watching out for her myself when she catches school bus, I may be an Old F**t whos a bit imobile but I can still swing a Baseball bat, so he better hope he get caught by the cops and not me, I think the cop would have a hard time charging me with GBH if I caught this greep.
It took about 4 hours last night to calm Mel down so she could get to sleep.
Also had word with one of neighbours up the Valley Part of the Motor cycle frat, he was very upset as he has daughter same age he,s putting word out and they will monitor the area as well, this mob were good when I had an old Vintage motor cycle stolen, Police failed to find it, they got it back, they found it 200 miles away, not sure what they did to the thief who had it, but they assured me he would not be back in the valley again!
Thanks all once again. I'll let you know if we catch this creep.

Have you got "Selective Call Blocking" there, we do here, and for about $3/mo I can even keep the inlaws from calling me. It has a feature that lets you either block the last # called or you can enter up to 12 #s.
If you have access to it, it works!
Good luck in all,

Invite him over....then...

WW: Get an answering machine and tape the recording from the phone company that says" This number has been disconnected" and clue in all until he gets tired of calling. your friends can just announce themselves after your message, or if it's him just hang up.

One problem with all the phone co services is that he may be using different phones to call you. That makes it MUCH tougher!

I've got someone that I know who calls & harasses frequently from different location every time. I know who it is, but not WHERE he is. He's a homeless mental patient, police can't touch him on this, and to make it worse I grew up with him! He's beyond help & currently institutionalized, but short term. Can't change the number because then he'd just show up at the door! I'm rambling again...

Anyway, in your case definately GET THE LOCAL AUTHORITIES INVOLVED!!!
You might have some NUT on your hands, & unlike me, you DON'T know him!!!!!

WW.... given that this predator found your daughter via the net, he could literally be in any country. IF you find out who it actually is, please post his name, address, and phone number here (especially if he is in the US).

You never know, someone that visits this bbs might live close to him. And you just never can tell the lengths that some people might go to in order to help you get this resolved <wink,wink>........ brakes fail, toasters fall in bathtubs, hunting accidents happen, etc etc.

lol ~ sort of.

I used an answering machine on "instant" pick-up. Soon it just wasn't funny anymore and he went away...

Good luck....

It's about time someone does something to these idiots stalking others on the net. I hope when that sicko is found, WW presses charges and puts this idiot away for a freaking long time.

WW: If the guy lives in another state, did you know that harrassing you (or your family) across interstate phone lines is a federal offense (meaning contact a higher authority, i.e. FBI). Whatever it takes, go for it, this guy belongs in jail.
