Whenever I play mp3s with either Winamp or Sonique it skips alot whenever I go to new web pages or do anything cpu intensive it seems. I have used multiple versions of Winamp and they all do it. Please tell me what I can do about it. I already gave it the highest priority and upped the buffer time to its max on both progs.

Thanks alot.

You wouldn't happen to be using USB speakers would you? That would account for the skipping. Using the ACS48 Altecs, WinAmp doesn't skip.

Do you trun WinAmp on and let it go while you do stuff around the place? Mine did it too. It was because when the screen saver kicks on it caused it on mine. Check that out.

I have tried many many many MP3 players. WinAmp is the most intensive.
They all skip at 133MHZ, 200MHZ.
I believe you need Pentium 400MHZ+ to run WinAMP.

Try FreeAmp its th only one that runs on my 133MHZ piece of s__t!

Try a diffrent sound card. i used a sound blaster 16 in my 486 system and it played mp3's perfectly fine. now i have on board sound and it skips a lot. i have been meaning to disable my onboard sound and go for my old pci card because it never used to skip when i'm playing music.

Actually I'm not sure that you're correct there Tekola. From what I've seen, Winamp is one of the least CPU intense of all the mp3 players. It always ran fine on my 166mhz machine, while surfing the web!

qmaster, is your machine a Celeron? If so, that's your problem right there.

Also, make sure Winamp's priority is turned up to "realtime".

166 Mhz laptop with 32 meg ram cranks winamp just fine. I would have to say that Winamp isn't too processor intensive based on that.
