this is the contents of my cookie
"# Netscape HTTP Cookie File# http://www.netscape.com/newsref/std/cookie_spec.html# This is a generated file! Do not edit"
it is set to read only so nothing more is saved and nothing more is learned. this only works in netscape, cause IE uses multiple files for cookies. besides i don't read junk mail. and i don't care to have web sites set preferences for me. you know like remember password and login name, the last place you were. grante this won't stop everbody but it keeps the javascript junkies out.

Hi smunzli
What I gathered from reading the first article - first post is, by reading correctly the source code in the message, cookie or page, the
<img src="http://www.mybannerads.com/sync.gif>
<img src="http://www.mybannerads.com/sync.gif?email=john@doe.com>
Outlook:
GET /sync.gif?email=john@doe.com HTTP/1.1
Netscape Messenger:
GET /sync.gif?email=john@doe.com HTTP/1.0
Web bugs clue:
WIDTH=1 HEIGHT=1
will be there to see within, as per Richard M. Smith's paper.
I very rarely receive spam/junk mail but might on occasion click a banner, therefore I would like to know if they are using my email for their profit and without my knowledge, if it's even possible with my setup and ISP, and you can be sure I will be inquiring.
Sneaky tactics! I thought others may be interested in knowing about it. And to be fair, apparently not everyone is doing this - yet.
And I never enable permanent cookies and the 'per session' in IE5 is deleted nightly. And my Netscape doesn't accept any cookies.
Yes, it's a good idea to disable the auto-password and login name too. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Some interesting reading there, socalgal.
Since I use a a stand-alone mail package (Calypso) and do not have any e-mail or name information located within Netscape, I wonder that I am not vulnerable to this leak...
I also don't dial in through the Netscape pop up window and use a DUN window first.
Of course, the safest way to eliminate any suspision of the leak on the system is to disable those cookies http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Like I've said in the past, When I entered into this wide world of the internet, I knew that there was no such thing as being anonamous(?). And as I have said I don't really care. I stand behind what I say and if these folks don't like it and they know where I'm at, let em come. They just might have a tiger by the tale. I grew up in the school yards of N.Y.C. and this ,to me , is just a big school yard. What goes around, comes around. I refuse to let all this privacy B.S.
deter me from having a good time here or anywhere else on this internet or anywhere else. I'm a free man and no ones going to take my freedom from me. Esspecially some
high tech flunkie that put an electronic
tracer in my computer. These people sit in their little corner playing their cybergames,
and wouldn't have the nerve to come out in the light of day. Just like the hacker idiots
People work hard for their money , to give their children a chance. A computer in a home is a great chance, and some A__hole who is so smart wants to ruin this kids chance by making up viruses and worms, etc. Screw them.
Let them come out into the school yard, show their face, if they've got the guts, which I'm sure they don't. Little men with very intelligent but little minds. I'm about wound out and wish there was more I could do ,but
as long as I breath, I'm gonna speak my mind
because that's what all those folks died for throughout our history, and if they are watching down from their final reward, I'm gonna make them feel that their efforts and sacrifices were not in vain.
Please take time on the 7th to remember our heroes at Pearl Harbor and Hickum Feild.And all who have contributed to make this country
what it is.
