I don't normally allow games on any of my sys,s ends up cuasing to much trouble, but every now and then I biuld a sys that I want see if it crashes with new op's before converting to it, then I let my son Daniel loose on it to see how long it takes him to crash it. /forum/wink.gif
most of the system I let him loose on are either P2 or P3 and his own sys is a P1 which he moans is to slow compared to the P3's

I had a AMD K-6 233 with my Pure3D2LX Voodoo2 card.

For example; Playing Unreal, Recoil, Tiger99, Motocross Madness, World Superbike, Tanarus, Recoil, or FA-18 Korea would all get choppy at times. Especially when there were explosions and multiple characters/vehicles. I now have a Celeron 366 o-c'd to 456 and all of my problems went away. The Voodoo2 and Voodoo3 cards rely heavily on the system processor for frame rates if I'm not mistaken. Upgrade if you have the $$$$, and you'll be suprised. /forum/smile.gif

AMD K7 600 @ 666 w/ ATI All-In-Wonder 128 (16mb version).

I get 72 fps in Q3A @ 800*600.

Q2 looks very bright, but I get 91 fps @ 800*600.

OpenGL mode in HalfLife is wonky, but looks great. I use D3d mode instead, which handles better, but doesn't look as great.

I have a Celery 400 with DSL. My friend with a 266, and cable modem gets higher pings than me on Counter Strike. I think the processor has a lot to do with connection speed too. If you're asking for opinions, yes, upgrade your processor.

Little cel 366@458 with 64MB ram and using a Monster Fusion (PCI). Running all games quite smothly and if they don't well then some tweaking around always helps /forum/smile.gif

Celeron 466 (not O/C), 256MB Ram, TNT2U, cable.
I don't pay much attention to measuring frame rates, or ocing, but as far as I'm concerned, everything that I run is smooth and fast. Q3, C&C2, Half life, UT, whatever.

My games are on a celeron-based system I built myself. I skipped from a 486 DX-33 to a celeron, never did have a PII and never will. PIII coppermine perhaps. Anyways...

Celeron 366 @ 567 / Celeron 266 @ 448
Abit BH6/Abit BE6
96 MB PC-66 Ram
Western Digital 9.1gig Expert UDMA66 drive
Fujitsu 6.4gig UDMA33 drive
Maxtor 240mb IDE drive
Matrox G400 16mb/ATI xpert@play 8mb AGP
SigmaDesign Hollywood+ DVD/Mpeg-1/Mpeg-2 card
Acer 24x Max CDROM
Soundblaster 16
SupraExpress 56ki/Boca 28.8ki modems
KDS 19" Monitor / IBM 14" (broken)
Standard 3.5" floppy drive

I almost have all the parts to put together another system. Cheap as it may be, a system nonetheless. Still need a ATX case and get the stupid IBM monitor repaired.

All of the above was purchased within a year and a half.

I use to play games mostly on consoles like SNES, but not ever since I knew what a computer actually is and the endless things it can do for you, not just games.
Ya know what I mean?

Apostle - Yes, playing games on the ATI may not be a whole lot of fun, but where it really shines is 2d, tv-out, its all-in-one features, and subjectively, its excellent mpeg-2 decoding capabilities both thru software and hardware and sharp outputs.

So yeah, other than gaming, it kicks *** in every other feature.

Give credit where credit is due.

I'm running PII 350 with Voodoo 3 3000
256 megs RAM
Games differ.
Unreal was excellent but Baldurs Gate was choppy when there was lots happening
Going to get a PIII shortly but might have a crack at overclocking the PII first, never tried it, see what happens.

Voodoo 3 3000 @180MHz
SB Live!1024 Player

Rocks with most stuff I play - MiG Alley, Baldur's Gate, AvP, MS Combat Sim, FIFA 99.

The bottleneck is the HDD (128MB RAM would also help), as I like to have loads of games with minumum installs - so things tend to load off CD a fair bit. Usually between levels though, so not too bad.

PIII 450, 256MB RAM, V2 SLI, TNT2 Ultra, 10x DVD, and 6.4GB HD. All my games run great on it. I'm going to need a new HD soon. Maybe a PIII 750 sometime next year.

As for upgrading to a PIII from a PII 266 you will see a big difference. Get a PIII 733 with one of the new Intel 820 motherboards.

Ah hell why not, here's my specs too. I play UT, Freespace2, Delta force2, Slave Zero and soul reaver right now. All the games run smooth and fast, the online games (Mostly UT) are great with my Cable modem. Just wish there were more servers up here in Ottawa, Canada for UT...

I find I can't run any of the new 3d games in anything more than 640x480 at frame rates that I'm comfortable with. (with every graphic option turned all the way up, of course!) And I find older based games (half-life) I get pretty much the same frame rates at 1024x768 32bit as I do 640x480 16bit. (3dmark confirms this) So my graphics card is just waiting for the cpu.

Celeron 500 @ 563. Unreal, q2 and 3 mostly.
Works much better than my k62 and k63 I had but I remember thinking, man, this AMD chip rocks with these games.

AMD K6-2 350@450, 32MB savage4 AGP g-card, 64MB SDRAM.

All games run very smoothly at 800*600, most run smoothly at 1024*768, but a couple like TA-Kingdoms get a little slower at the higher resolutions.

**Current System Specs**

Pentium II 450 MHz.
128 Megs RAM
48X Delta CD-ROM
Imation LS-120 disk drive
HP 9100i 8x4x32 CD-RW
Monster Sound MX300 sound card
Seagate UDMA 33 6.4 gigabyte hard drive
16 Meg Creative Banshee AGP video card

-----------------------------------------

**Current games I’m playing**

Ages of Empire II – The Age of Kings
Command and Conquer: Tiberian Sun
System Shock 2

**In the hopper not loaded or played**

Might and Magic VII (friend just finished playing – gave me the game)

-----------------------------------------

I’ve held off on more recent software purchases because of the holidays, friends and family members have all been advised as to what I might want if they where to feel inclined to give me a gift. Next major game purchase for me will most likely be Diablo 2.

I’m going to upgrade the video card and hard drive (ATA66 7200RPM) after the first of the year but that will be it for this machine.

I’m going to build myself an Athlon system around April of 2000. I’ll strip out the new video, hard drive, CD-RW and put those in the new system. I’ll remove the LS-120 and put it in another system I own. Reinstall the Banshee and Seagate into the P2 450 and give it to my brother for his Birthday in May.

Regards to All,

Zotz Mein

I would say that a CPU u/g would help a lot not just for games. Another thing you might want to think about is going SLI after the CPU upgrade.
