Is there a small utility that can tell me, in realtime, my connection speed using a cable modem?

d/l'ing large files from websites, I've seen speeds as high at 600k/sec. But d/l stuff from the newsgroups seems tremendously faster than anything I've done over the web. I'm just curious as to exactly how fast.

Plus, I'd like to accurately determine the speed difference, if any, when using my ISP's proxy server.

If anyone knows of a utility that would be helpful, I'd sure appreciate it. In the meantime, I'll just keep looking around myself.

TIA, -OuT

Your line speed:

741.8 Kbps

90.9 K bytes/sec

good enough for me /forum/smile.gif

I think I'm going migrate to DSL. The ever-changeing speed is quite annoying. (see pic) I think when we're talking about high speed internet access it's not the connection speed that matters...it how fast the server the information is on can send it to you. If you want to know how fast it's sending it to you....well, I just use the read out in the bottom left of the getright window. And doesn't Netscape have that too? I don't know of a program that does this sepreatly. I'll look too, because I've asked this question to myself before.

Well, that made it pretty easy for me to determine whether or not I use the proxy server.

with proxy:

without proxy:

Remember, the proxy only helps with stuff that's ON the proxy. As per your post in another topic I tried with and without and found that sites that wouldn't be on the proxy were painfully slow when I used the proxy. And if your going by that test....make sure you do it alot more than once and take averages for both with and without. My pictures were all taken without the proxy in the course of about 1min.

I know this string is old, but I found just what I think you're looking for thanks to a link in another string. It shows the rate of incomeing data in real time....as well as outgoing and cpu usage.

I downloaded the analogx and I couldn't open it. Said I needed a snmpapi.dll file. Anyone one know where to find this file?

Uhhh call me stoopid if you wish, but can't you just find a large 20+ file to download off the net? And then just sit and watch what the d-load speed is? And yes..... I know that it all depends on how fast their side is too. Correct me if I'm wrong.
