Has this happened to anyone?
I have Norton AV 5.0 and I regularly update
the signatures when they become available from Symantec's SARC page.
Everything has been working ok until last night.
I down loaded the WIN95/98 signatures dated
1106 and ran the update, no problems.
The symptoms I'm getting are slow boot up at
the part that's just before the icons appear on the desktop, I get the Norton
Auto-protect bar that shows just above the task bar takes a while to appear, then the
desktop is populated.
When you try to open folders there is a wait
time of about 4 seconds, where before it was
almost instantaneous, the same with opening most programs from the start menu (haven't tried them all)one program, you could count to ten slowly before it opened.
When I disable Auto protect in the tray, everything is normal, the speed picks up, I went to Symantec's page a few minutes ago to see if there was anything regarding the 1106 signatures, but I didn't see anything yet.
I thought I might try and roll back to
the 1031 signatures, but I'm not sure what the impact would be if any.
Thank you for any help or insight.

Just downloaded( Live update) 11/09 updates and all seems normal om my machine. Have you installed or downloaded anything else that might have caused a conflict?? Try restoring your registry to a date before you downloaded the virus software and see what happens. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Ha!
Yes, I had the exact same problems as you sciport and it never occured to me it was the NAV updates.
I have been messing with my system and thought I screwed up somewhere.
I restored a registry backup I made this mourning, no joy.
Then I restored a compleate drive image that I made last night before I started making changes and that didn't work either.
I just went back to live update and got the 11/9/00 definitions and everything seems back to normal.
Thanks for making the connection, hope yours is running well again also.

Norton has confirmed this to be a problem with the 11/06 updates.
