It seems like I get the BSD almost everyday or everyother day. Can someone tell me why that happens and how I can prevent it from happening as often?

TechJumper 11-07-2000, 07:19 PM Often times you get the BSD (cool name for it, I just call it the @#$%^# hehe) because you are running two conflicting programs such as IE and Netscape, but that isn't a good comparison. But if you are running two graphics programs, and are contantly copying and pasting to the clipboard cache, it is possible the system would react with the BSD. My experience with it has been mostly while running RAM chewing games, like SimCity 3000, or FF7. One question: 1. When you click "any key" what happens, does the computer work? One thing to do that is fun is hit ctrl+alt+delete and see just what you are running. What os are you running. Windows 2000, while not the best for games, has a disply when you enter the task manager that shows every executable running as well, some of that stuff might suprise you! Best of luck, TechJumper Michael rock8785 11-07-2000, 07:25 PM I am running windows98 and I do hit the esc key and ctrl->alt->del and usually something isnt responding. And I am usually running aol and my winamp, and a few other programs. [This message has been edited by rock8785 (edited 11-07-2000).] TechJumper 11-07-2000, 07:35 PM Well, hmmmmmmmmm.... Winamp shouldn't be the problem, unless the music is off the cd drive. is it a cd or dvd drive? The other problem could lie in AOL. I do recall having similar problems when I ran AOL. how long have you used aol in relation to the length of this problem? BTW- What are your system specs? Mike rock8785 11-07-2000, 07:43 PM The winamp music are mp3's. What are system specs? rock8785 11-07-2000, 07:44 PM I have been running aol for about a year and a half, and most of the time I get the BSD when aol is running. Gomer 11-07-2000, 08:05 PM A great place to start would be scandisk. Follow this by a defrag and system file checker. System file checker can be found in the system information program. You may want to consider running the internet explorer repair. This can be found under add/remove programs--Internet explorer. Those should be the first places to start and be run on a regular basis anyway. Hope that helps. SysOpt.com
