sounds like a bios problem, or...
sometimes games or applications override manual control of your settings. Make sure you have turned off those preferences on the games. otherwise load bios defaults for monitor.

OS? Most Winders will have a Control Panel/ Display/ Settings/ Advanced/ Monitor. Try checking "Reset display on suspend/resume".

Once I had a similar problem with an EIZO monitor. Try disabling from the BIOS all the settings that are concerning the VGA card and the monitor that are under Power Management.
Hope it will help

Do you use driver Default Monitor or are you using special .inf file supported maybe for your monitor. I have Belinea 17" and it does the same on some configs if I do not put special driver writen for it.

where can I check the .inf files?? I go into the INF dir in windows and I have pretty much file call Monitor.inf, Monitor01.inf all the way to Monitor12.inf. Could those be effecting it?

Look in the device manager under monitor.
It should read: ViewSonic GS771
If not, get the first file on this page "vsinf.exe" http://www.viewsonic.com/support/
Hope it helps.

If none of the above work, try turning off the power management features in CMOS and in Control Panel.
