I removed Windows ME (Too slow for my 200MC System. Also crashes a lot) W98 has worked solid without trouble for a year. Now windows crashes often upon boot up with varying VXD faults (First VXD IOS(04) and then another time VXD VKD(01) Can anyone tell me what IOS and VKD stand for? I could also use some advice about how to go about troubleshooting this problem. The removal procedure said that I might have to reconfigure my SWAP FILE. I have a the WIN 98 Resource Book . looked at the swap file and could only determine that it seemed to have plenty of memory assigned --- Don't know what to set it to.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

You have general hardware problems. IOS.vxd stands for Input/Output System (I think), & vkd.vxd is the Virtual keyboard. You can boot into Safe Mode & remove ALL instances of duplicated devices from Device Manager, & reboot. If that's not enough, might need to take more drastic action & remove virtually every device in Safe Mode & let Winders reinstall. You might need some help from a knowledgable person w/this if it's too difficult.

Thanks BFlurie. I found the problem.
Thanks to Snarkie,reboot,Mosiac1 and others that have helped me. Today's cigar goes to Whitphil who told me that IOS(04) was associated with Iomega and putting me on the trail of Q243037 which in turn told me exactly what to do. The problem now appears to be solved. I will copy and paste this to the other boards.
Thanks a lot,

FYI This is an update to that old problem.
I went back to WIN98 and everything was fine. Except:
I checked on the two files needed to remove WIN98 and they were gone.
I cannot remove WIN 98 and my restore disk only works in W95. At this point I decided that it would be safer to reinstall WINMe because of its "go-back" feature and WIN98 would provide a buffer. I did and it works better than before. The mini crashes were gone and another annoying problem is now gone and it is working fine. It had better work because apparently the saved WIN98 files overwrote my WIN95 files making it impossible to remove WIN98 and hence no Restore Disk usage is possible.
I have a Compaq and I don't know if I can collect all the necessary proprietary drivers
Needed in case I ever had to do a FDISK type removal of a corrupt OS.
