This patch, I assume you're referring to 100updt or udmaupdt, is only to change to speeds that the drive is designed for. When you bought your drive, was it listed as ATA100? If it wasn't, it will only change it to the max speed. E.G. I have 2 maxtor drives, one is ATA33, the other is ATA66. If I run the program it will locate both the drives and if I tell it to change it to ATA66 it will set my ATA66 drive to that but the ATA33 drive will only go to 33. You can't cheat your drive into going faster than it was designed to. So go ahead and try it if you want, you'll see.

I was, about a month ago. I haven't tried it yet until I get a new CPU and mobo that will support ATA100. Already have the drive, not installed though. If ya want a copy of it just email me.

The maxtor 7200 is a 66 type but the only difference is a patch. The drive is made for 120mb because of duel proccessors in drive. All i need to run the 100mb is a pci card, tried to down load program , but didn't work due to network problem. But the question is this worth doing or just a waste of time? I think i will try patch because it doesn't cost anything but a floppy disk. I may want to get a 100 raid card,? Then it would be worth the trouble and add a second maxtor drive and use my seagate drive as a slave ,0+1! I guess i answered my own question, the Wolf knows best?

Man, I wouldn't worry about it too much, I really doubt your drive will go any faster than 66MB/s. Tests have been done on both ATA33 and ATA66 drives and they found the faster one only transfered at 18MB/s.

I guess your right but trying the patch would be interesting. But if i got a raid card,it would be a good idea ,then i would have two matched drive's!

I would do it.

If it is not one of these drives then don't bother.

as stated above if you don't have the proper hard drive don't bother trying it won't work. if you must try and find out we are right go to http://www.maxtor.com/Maxtorhome.htm then click on software downloads, and then click on udma update. download file .try it . then come back and b***ch because it didn't help. and we will say WE TOLD YOU SO! (i know it won't work because i just had to try it.)

Tryed patch ,didn't work. At least worth a try, ME dos must be started with disk? Where do I get a raid card= but maybe a little more memory might do more? I have 160mbs of pc100, would another 64mb do much? That would give me 224mb of pc100?
