Mod chips are legal, and Sony does sugjest making backups of your games if you can. Coping your games for your use is perfectly legal on all platforms, and modern MOD chips do much more than just let you play copied games, they have built in cheats, remove some game errors, and for techies like most of us, they are fun to install. On top of this, you can program for the system with one of these things in it. They are for a lot more than just steeling games, so don't asume that anyone who wants to get one of these just wants to copy CDs from blockbuster or something, I don't even have a CD-R, but I want one for the other features.

While we're clearing smoke, the phrase Socalgal changed to "backup" was written by you as "pirated games." You're the one that brought up the illegal stuff, bud.
Don't push your luck. It runs out eventually.... always.

I said I do not approve of pirated games, I approve of backups.

Allow me to jog your memory:
In http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum13/HTML/000182.html , YOU said
That is $2 less than the price for one of these with no shipping, these are the best, play pirated games!
Of course, it doesn't say that now because socalgal saved you some face and edited it to "backups".
THAT'S what I was referring to above.
No more mod chips, pirated software, pirated mp3 downloads, etc. If it's illegal, it can go somewhere else - we're trying to stay within the law here.
Thanks for your kind and WILLING cooperation.
