I have a Celeron 433MHz and a J.Bond PCI600-F mb that I just built that will lock up on me at random times. Everything else works just find cuz I just pulled them from a system that worked perfectly.

Is this due to the OS (which was just reinstalled with no problems) or due to the CPU.
Please help me figure this out.

well,,trying looking in the device manager for any conflicts,,and also,,maybe you have some hardware that doesn't agree with you board,,try removing your add in cards piece by piece,,except the video card of course,,also ensure your video card is using the most up to date drivers available for it,, and make sure your board is configured properply for for the cpu you are using,,

how about giving us some specifics about your system. Is the CPU overclocked,,what kind of software environment are you using?,,win98 95,,,2000,,??

with some more info ,,maybe some of the members here can help you.

I am running in Win98SE and there are no conflicts with my hardware in device manager. I have the most up to date drivers for all my items that I know of. My CPU isn't overclocked at all.

I also did the add one piece in at a time and it still happenes. That is what is so strange about everything.

I am thinking there might be something with the Video card but it is a Matrox Millieium and I have had no problems with it before

If you don't get any error messages, the chances would lean toward a hardware error. You might run DrWatson at startup to see if it could trap the "error".

Malfunctioning(Subtle) RAM(Memory) has given me lot of such headaches. You sh'd test it thru hardware diagnostic programs (BCM diag.,Norton etc.)

Try redoing that Heat Sink goop. I had the same problems with mine. Redid the goop and everything works fine now, even runs 5 degrees cooler. Intel uses some cheap sh** that doesn't really work.

Reason for redoing the goop was the CPU was getting a little too hot that it would lock my system up. The goop Intel used didn't transfer heat well enough. Oh, the goop should only be about 1/16 of an inch thick. And be put on as smooth as possible without it squeezing out of the sides. And don't squeeze the heat sink on too tight, there needs the be a little bit of a space between the heat sink and cpu for the goop.
