when i put a cd in my drive, it wont autoload. So then i go into explorer and doubleclick on autorun and it starts to load. The other day, it was loading fine, but out of no where it stopped. It is loading "manually", but not loading when i put it in the drive. Any suggestion. Apparently the drive is ok and not defective.

thanks for the help

Goto your CDROM properties and make sure the 'Auto insert notification' (sorry its called something like that) is ticked. On the other hand goto a program in your Control Panel called 'TweakUI' and enable the AutoRun through this.

Information about TweakUI is at http://www.annoyances.org/win98/features/tweakui.html

(Sorry, I inadvertently left a period at the end of the above URL that pretty much rendered it useless http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif It's fixed now.)

Also, from the Windows Magazine site:
To install it, insert the Win98 CD. On the opening screen, choose "Browse This CD." Navigate to the \Tools\Reskit\Powertoy folder. Right-click the TWEAKUI.INF file and choose "Install" from its pop-up menu. If Setup halts when the Help screen opens, close the Help box (click the X in the upper-right corner) to allow the installation to finish. You can launch Tweak UI from the Control Panel. If your PC didn't come with an original Windows 98 CD, or if you have Windows 98 Second Edition, you can download Tweak UI for Windows 98 from winmag.com. Because Tweak UI's Setup program expects to be installed from a CD, not your hard drive, there's an extra step. Follow the same directions as above. Part way through you'll be prompted to insert a Win98 CD. But disregard that, and instead use the dialog box's Browse feature to point Setup right back to the folder on your hard drive that contains the downloaded Tweak UI setup files. Once you've found that folder, click OK, and the installation will complete.

Hope this helps...

Kim

I went thru this pain too, I need autorun for my kids, it makes life easier. So when some proggy changed an association and another before that changed a registry value this is how I fixed both occurences.

Go to the window where all the file associations are.

Edit the Audio CD association. It should say "C:\Windows\cdplayer.exe" (or wherever Windows is).

Add /play to the command line. The result should look like: C:\Windows\cdplayer.exe /play
Note the space after .exe

OR:

In regedit go to HKEY-Users - default - software - Microsoft - Windows - CurrentVersion - Policies - Explorer.

Should be a line in the right column: NoDriveTypeAutoRun and value should read:
95 00 00 00.

If it doesnt, change it by editing that key value.

Good luck

yes, you got it...change it to what you show above. You had some overactive proggy change it just like it did to mine.
Happy auto-running!

double click the key in left window, and edit the value, thats it.

I dont have that entry in mine(Win95B).
Try changing it or taking it right out.
Write down the exact wording before doing so if need be you can recreate the key.

It's only cdrom autorun so dont worry about messin anything up.
