Thank You Government007 09-22-2000, 02:01 PM How do I install it, I am not for sure how, could someone please walk me through the process. Thanks GroundZero3 09-22-2000, 03:21 PM Do you have the upgrade cd or the full version of WinMe?? if im correct with the upgrade cd you have to have win98. i think. if you have the full the only thing that you should have to do is put in the cd and the auto run should start. the last resort thing you can do if you have the full version is to back up your files and just reformat and do a clean install. JaYsin Ed_S 09-22-2000, 04:25 PM I've just read all (I think) of your posts regarding this system. I can appreciate you're curiosity about this old system, but it would help everyone answer you better if you included the specs! From what you said regarding the vid card being 10 yrs old, if the rest is that vintage as well, it won't meet the requirements of M.E., or even '98 for that matter. M.E.'s basic minimum requirements are Pentium 150mhz with 32mb ram & 480mb free HD space. --- Now, with that said, GroundZero is correct. The "update" ($59.95) CD requires W98. The "upgrade" ($89.95) works with '95 or '98. All others will need the full version. Either upgrade can be installed "clean" if you own the correct previous version disk. Ed Government007 09-24-2000, 02:19 PM My system meets all the requirements for windows ME. I have the full version. I have a pentium 166MHz processor, with 64MB of EDO RAM, as long a a 3.4GB of hard drive space left. Here is my problem: I put the CD in windows 3.1 and nothing happens. I go and type in D:\Setup because that is what it says, and nothing happens. I then exit to DOS and type in D:\Setup and nothing happens. I know the computer recogines the CD because when I look at the director it shows all the files in it. My CD-ROM drives lights up and I also hear my computer reading the disk, but nothing happens. I have installed Windows ME in a newer computer but then uninstalled it because I had to put Windows 2000 Server edition on it, but it did work. So now I am trying to install it on this older computer that is compatible with it, and noting happens. Please Help Thank You Ed_S 09-24-2000, 04:17 PM Since the directory does show up, have you tried just double-clicking the setup.exe file from File Manager?? Another idea, and I've never tried this from 3.X, is to manually start the autorun by running D:\autorun\autorun.exe Honestly, I think I'd try just ignoring the 3.1 installation and use a W95 or W98 boot disk to get the installation started. I'd back up the entire thing first if there's anything important on it!! SysOpt.com
