I know win95 doesn't have the handy utility msconfig but does anyone know where to access the same info on what is starting up at boot. There is nothing in startup on start menu, autoexec is reasonable empty with nothing unusual but ctrl-alt-delete shows loads of stuff which i don't reckon is necessary. Any idea where i can turn off these little beggars, what is the registry addrss for the startup programs.
Cheers

Or, if you have access to a W98 machine just get a copy of msconfig.exe and copy it into c:\windows\system on the W95 PC. It works with W95, too.

I would never suggest anything ILLEGIAL, but if you happen to OWN W98, Msconfig runs fine in W95 -- a few options don't do anything. The files:
Msconfig.exe
Msconfig.hlp
Msconfig.cnt
need to be in C:\windows\system.
Shoot, Steve, you already said that -- that's what I get for skimming.

Good info. However I get an Error message
"! The MSCONFIG.EXE file is
linked to missing export SHELL32.DLL:653"
What's this :653 deal ?
The monitor on it is real fuzzy, can't be sure
if
the : between "DLL and 32"
OR
a . between SHELL and 32
is correct.
IBM P166, 16mb 72pin ram W95 ver 4.00.950a,
thanks

also works great on Win2K

Cranium, all I can think is that it apparently won't work with W95a. The shell32.dll file changed from W95a to W95b, and it runs fine using W95b. I'm pretty sure W95a won't work w/W95b's version of shell32.dll (you could try).

All I copied was the exe file and it worked great. I have the cnt file but the others are not on the system in the 98 that I got the msconfig from.
Thanks

It doesn't much matter, Dave -- all the help file does is give you a (pretty useless) description of something when you r-click it & get "What's this?"
