I currently use Webstudio by Sierra but does anyone recommend another web building program ?
My personal site is only about 6 megs or so. I previously used MS Publisher 97, but its produced work never showed well on Netscape.

After you recommend the best software please leave ideas for the least expensive and most reliable web host provider.

thanks

My ISP provides me with 10 meg webspace. As far as what I use, Frontpage98. Word 97 and above works well, also.

Front Page 98 sucks!! Do you want it?I had to clean a bunch of bad HTML!I am now using Macrmedia Dreamwever 2.
Has anyone ever had a problem with the space bar deleting text? It just now started doing it! It's like hitin backspace but going forward! I don't know?
Anyway I don't care for Front Page. Who needs more Microsoft products anyway?

jad1097, the reason you think it sucks is because you just probably hate microsoft right? I use plain Notepad, but I think frontpage is very good for beginners, and/or advanced. Thats my story and I am sticking to it.

Frontpage should be avoided by all! If you know how to code in HTML already, Notepad/Notepad+ is the editor of choice amongst most. Aside from Dreamweaver, Allaire also puts out a great product called Homesite. You can use it as a Notepad-like editor and you don't have to fear that it will alter your existing code like FrontPage will. Homesite also has some really great features like global search and replace (so you can easily change one line of code throughout many .html pages at one time), built-in spell check, code optimization, etc.

If you are a totally newbie to building webpages, FrontPage is a great tool, but don't expect to create a fabulous site. You can take advantage of the fact that there are so many HTML tutorials on the web that make it easy to learn the basics.
http://www.allaire.com for Homesite

Can't advise on a host provider, I have used both JPS.net and PacBell and didn't care for either :-(

Adam-sith I know frontpage sucks because it can not get the Html right! I would not buy it thats for sure. Why pay for something if it does not work right? I would not say I hate microsoft, I do run win98. I just don't care for the way they do bussiness.
I agree with ladyice. I will check out Homesite. I have learned a little HTML thanks to frontpage. However I would recomend frontpage express. One of these days I will learn how to write Html.

By the way cool site adam-sith. Mine has allot of work to be done still. I deleted everything I did with fronpage and started over.

By far, the best HTML editor is Notepad (or any other TEXT editor).

I believe, especially for beginners, notepad shoud be used that way you might actually learn HTML code and how to compile the code in an organized fashion.

Even if it seems hard at first, stick with it , you'll thank me later.

"Hot Dog Pro"??? that is for AOL only isn't it?

How about the now probably defunct "HoT Metal Light" though I think it might be easier to just learn HTML than that program...

The key with the hosting service or ISP is can you link images to sysopt without having socalgal turn them into links.... links haha - is that in any way realted to "Sausage Software"?? /forum/smile.gif /forum/smile.gif /forum/smile.gif

~edit BTW dear... did you try the DOS=SINGLE line yet? /forum/wink.gif

One of the problems with frontpage with jad is because your probably making a site in frontpage, but looking at in netscape right?! Netscape has a whole different concept on html tags, and thats why it looks different. I dont like netscape all that much, I think internet explorer has alot better html capabilities, its faster, looks better then netscape "Everyone can tell of course /forum/smile.gif" And I never have trouble with it! Netscape is a bunch of trouble, I have tried it on all kinds of computers, and it never works right or something.

Netscape often has problems because it wants all HTML code to be CORRECT. It actually use the HTML standard and expects all code to be up to that standard. Basically, if your code doesn't work in NS, then your code is incorrect.

IE let's all kinds of ****-code go through without questioning it. Poorly written or just sloppy HTML will sometimes appear ok when viewed with IE. But sloppy code (tags left open, not embedded properly, etc.) often will show up in not so obvious ways, like a link that looks ok but doesn't work or misdirects, or any number of wierd errors.

I like NS because if it works in Netscape, then it's presumably correct and "should" work with any browser. With IE, I might not know if I have errors in my code because I can't count on IE to tell me that. A real **** shoot.

No problems with Netscape 4.08/128encrypt, no none here, Only minor problems with Netscape 4.51 (but not with the browser, just the other stuff) - some URLs at Microsoft site do not fully work - namely the IE and Windows update -duh.. no wonder!

MS Word97 - has some HTML/webpage generating capabilities, create new document/webpage - check out the wizard. You can also save as HTML, but I do not know how well that works.

FrontPage 2000 has corrected the majority of the problems connected with the programs creation of superfluous HTML.

What software you use depends on your intent. If you’re planning on designing a small personal site than there are a myriad of programs available that can assist you in site creation.

However if you needs are more business or commercial oriented than go with a program like FrontPage 2000 or Cold Fusion.

About a year ago I designed a site for an e-tail client in which the site was created with FrontPage 98 and a FrontPage third party program StoreFront; ASP based program that allows SQL integration.

The difference is that it took me days instead of weeks to setup a website that featured in excess of one hundred and fifty individual products with real-time credit card transaction, inventory control and order management.

I agree early incarnations of FrontPage created garbage when it came to standardize HTML. However this latest incarnation has finally resolved that issue. I agree that it’s very important to learn HTML or at least get a basic understanding.

I’ve also used Macromedia’s Flash and loved it. It really allows you to do some cool things.

Regards to All,

Here is a link to check HTML. THis is how i discovered my bad HTML. ANd yes OuTpaTienT is on the money.
I do not run Netscape cause it's too crashy. Only IE 5 since it was beta. If netscape ever fixes their browser Then I would use it. http://www.netmechanic.com/cobrands/zdnet/htmlcheck/
