We have 2 computers and 2 stereos in my apartment, and we have the computers networked over a simple ethernet hub. Each computer is wired into a stereo to play music through. What I want to do is synchronize the computers so they both play the same music at the same time. Any ideas on how to do this? Maybe with winamp somehow? We rip cds to mp3 format so when we don't have to change cds all the time. Any ideas would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Seems to me like you're trying to do it the hard way. I'd get a mixing box, like from Radio Shack. Have the two inputs with the two output. This will take a bit more wiring but it will be selective and be safer on your audio output cards. I have my stereo, VCR and
TV inputs in a switching box, so I can enjoy all, not simultaneniosly(?), thru my stereo speakers. Have a rheostat on TV input, since it's mono, for balance. Back to the hookup.
Just use one or the other for your music input, whether it be CD, MP-3, downloaded radio, whatever. Send it to switching box
You'll either need some switches, I use 12v relays, had a bunch of junk laying around when
I built it. It's alittle work, but I've had this box for over 25 years and it's simple to
operate( even my wife and daughter got it figured out) and it makes life simple with multiple inputs. If you like a diagram, let me know. /forum/smile.gif

Why would you want to sync-play the same music at the same time?
It can be done using time code synchronized video editing soft/hardware. Quite expensive.

Roy,
Petros is a lunatic, that's why!!!

Just kidding, Big Pete!
The reason is the comps/steroes are on different floors of the apartment. When he has parties and guests move from floor to floor, they won't hear clashing music. Instead, the same song will fill the entire house.

Right on, Anakhonda! Clashing music is such a drag
Ah Ha!
If that be the case, I'd seek a means to feed one source to the loudspeakers in both areas. Synchronizing the two computers would be much more costly than switching the feeds on an existing couple of wire pairs.

Thanks Roy! I think that is what we will have to do. We were trying to avoid having to run any more wire. Ah well, not that big of a deal. I guess I was just hoping there was some sort of freeware to take care of the prob /forum/smile.gif
