Okay
http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/008648.html

the back ground is there.

I bought a Duron 700(locked), an Asus A7V, and IBM 20gb 75gxp.

At the moment, I can't even get the screen to come out of sleep upon start up. Also, once I start it, the power button in the front won't shut it off. I know the vid card works cuz I'm useing it right now.

I did have it "working" before, and I don't know what I've done to make it not work.

I've read through the manual, and I have the Voltage Regulator Jumpers set for CPU Default. I have the JEN Jumper set for jumper mode, I have the External Frequency dippers set for 100MHz, and I have tried the Multipler dippers at both 7 and 8....7 makes sence to me, but it said 8 in the manual for a duron 700.

But it's always posted at 750MHz! When it was posting at all.

While it was booting up, I never got the floppy to work, I don't know what I could of missed there.

I built this p2/asus p2b system over 2 years ago without so many problems....before I even knew what "overclocking" ment, or before I knew about sysopt. AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Also, when I flip the power supply switch, everything is turned on for about 2 seconds, and then goes off. Then I can push the power button and start it up...but like I said, nothing happens.

I hope you guys can help. Thanks

Okay, up and running windows again...how? Who knows.

I havn't botherd with the floppy problem for awhile, because I'm trying to solve this mystery;

Like I said, it's running at 750. Sisoft Sandra says my multipler is 7.5, it's currently set at 8, as it shows to do in the manual. Setting the jumpers to 7 causes the system not to post.

Tom Papst's artical (http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/00q3/000711/amd-04.html) reflects that my "golden bridges" are indeed correct for a duron 700.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Okay, I knew 8 for the multipler was screwy. the PDF of manual revision 1.03(I have 1.02) shows a multipler of 7.

But that really shouldn't matter...If the chip is locked, it's locked.

If the Frequency Multiple of your chip is loccked, setting the Frequency Multiple will have no effect.

Okay, it seams any mutipler 7.0 and lower cause the system to start (fans and hd spinning) when the power supply switch is flipped, and can only be turned off that way. Any multipler over that and the system boots up at 750.

Now should I accept that I have a lemon and take it back, or should I try something else, like unlocking the multipler and seeing if that takes me anywhere?

i think it mat be you power suppy there seti if you can get your hands on a 300 watt that may help also the 750 thing may be it is a 750 not a 700
did you buy it local or off the net if you got it local i would take it to then and have then check it out dont do anything to it to void the warranty until you no it is not a lemon as you put it have then check it on you power supply to make sure that is not the problem
not putting eought power to the mobo will make it run strangly for sure

On the amd site they have 235watt ps aproved for Durons. But that could still be the issue.

According the bridges, it should be locked at 7*external frequency, not 7.5. It doesn't make any sence.

Atleast one problem was solved, I swapped the floppy and it works now.

Okay, I tried the pencil trick...it wouldn't boot at anything but 7.5
