i'm trying to put a modem in my other computer and after i install it, it always says "port already open" or something like that. it says this when i try to run diagnostics to make sure it's workin.
when i try to connect to the internet it says the modem isn't there.

Most likely an irq conflict or try changing the port.
If you're using a modem with Rockwell chips, try making sure the modem is autodetected by Windows. Sometimes that means, shutting down, putting in a different slot, and rebooting.

I have a Rockwell based chip and sometimes I get that message. Last week I tried IRQ shuffling but no result.I moved my modem to another slot & everything is fine. So it might be a good idea.
