yes, now the cd drive gives me a black screen

would it be a good idea to move all essential things to drive C: format D: and then move them back???

If you just installed your CD drive, you may have inverted the IDE(assuminf you got the IDE), or if you placed it as your primary slave, you may have jumpered it wrong. Or you might have used it as a secondary master and jumpered it as a slave.

Anyway, we need more data.

And yes it is good if you put the essential things on drive C and Format Drive D. It would be much better if you transfer all essentials in drive C, after formatting drive D, and format drive C. And fresh install everything--if thats what your planning to do?????
