I have had several problems with this computer that I have. I built it, and when I built it last year I put windows 2000 in it. I recently switched processors from a pentium to a DURON. I didn't know that you cannot retrieve files from the HD if you switch major components of the computer with win2000. Oh well right.
Well now I think that I have a faulty sound card. I cannot correctly install the drivers. Every attempt that I have made still does not in stall the Sound Blaster emulation driver. Oh yeah I have a SB MP3 LIVE. It is a great card, but I cannot get the sucker working. Well any help at all would be great. I have been working on these problems for almost 3 weeks, and I need a computer now.

THANKS

WHOA...lol...Win2k ain't that useless!

I've been running 2k for about a year now and ive put it through some fun abuses..swapping hdd's, processors, switching acpi modes etc...im still on the original install, the worst ive had to do is re run setup to switch matters with the acpi etc....i've never known it to screw up that bad....

if your soundcard, videocard, hdd etc seem to have all shot itself, sounds a bit worse than an os problem...u get any static while you were in there? ouch man http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Why aren't you able to access the files on the hard drive? If you can't boot into Windows you still should be able to boot to DOS and copy them somewhere. Even if it was formatted with NTFS there are programs that will allow you to access the drive with a DOS boot disk. Did you (hopefully not) reformat the drive?

Anyway, it sounds like at this point you're just trying to get the sound working. Could you describe a little more about what you've tried and what drivers you are trying to load?
