Notepad opens dial up window

Strange one this, I downloaded firewall software a couple of weeks ago, can't remember what it's called, got a yellow screen interface. Seemed to work fine, I kept getting requests while using it to allow notepad access to the internet, I agreed, didn't know why not. Now notepad is always in the running tasks and keeps dialling the internet, also the machine has become unstable in a very big way in the last 5 days.

Any suggestions, I have scanned the drives with the latest Mcaffee definitions to no avail. Machine is a Compaq 7461, K6/2 500 with 128Mb 8Gb HD, running 98.
