NAV repaired all my CIH infected .exe files thanks to the wonderful guidance I received here. However, now I've got a ton of backup files that are backups of the orginal that have the '.vir' extension. I try to delete the files but get 'access denied' back.
I'm especially worried that if I delete the Winword.vir and Excel.vir files then the .exe reflections of them will not work.
Thanks

Hi V~Jim
Glad to hear it! /forum/smile.gif
Are you trying to delete these backups from within the Quarantine? From within Quarantine, go to View, Options, Backup Files and try unchecking Restore. (leave Delete checked)
The .vir is the backup of the infected file, so you don't want to keep it. If the repair was successful your .exe's should work properly.
Or, from Norton:
Note: If you have chosen to delete files that could not be repaired and don't have an uninfected copy of a program file, you can get a replacement copy from the manufacturer. If you don't have an uninfected copy of a Microsoft .doc, .dot. or .xls file (which may be infected with the new Macro Viruses), you still need to delete the file from your disk to keep from spreading the infection. You should get into the habit of keeping original disks in a safe place and making backup copies of your files.
Also, did you get the updated NAV 5.01 inline patch listed on your other thread and download those and the latest virus defs? Do, and rescan just to be sure. /forum/smile.gif
