I got the Abit BE6 II motherboard few months ago. Everything works fine until few days ago when the whole computer just freeze. Reset seem not to work at all. I have to turn off the power. Turn on and boot up fine but it will freeze in few minutes or so. Anyone has any advice or ideas? Tech support at Abit is a joke.

Can you give us a description of your system (e.g., processor, video, hd, OS, etc). Also, did you recently flash the BIOS??
Have you done anything to your system recently? By this, I mean have you added anything, replaced anything, moved stuff around . . . that sort of thing. I don't want to attempt to diagnose your problem without more information, because I don't want to cause any other problems. Please post back.

JimG,
The board run on PIII-600E, Diamond Speedstar A50 Graphics and Seagate ST38421A HD. I don't think I install any new hardware or software since the PC puts together. There is a new BIOS but I did not flash it. I figure the old one work, why change!

caddmannq, let me try your method and see what happen! Thanks.

Nipman, I agree with your opinion on the BIOS. I haven't flashed mine in almost a year. I have an Abit BE6, and have had mostly good luck with it (i had a power problem, but apparently it was caused by my reset switch). Anyway, I didn't think about disabling all the power saving stuff like caddmannq suggested, but I checked my BIOS, and I have all that stuff disabled.
Also, if you're running Windows 98, make sure to turn off it's power saving abilities as well. Everyone I know has told me to disable Windows power saving controls because of problems they've had. I forget the exact problem with Windows power saving controls, but I just disable it on any machine I use. Good luck!

Check and make sure your cpu fan is working... also check the cpu temperature in bios...make be overheating even with the fan running...had that happen on one machine. Switched heatsink/fan and problem cleared up.
