no sound

I installed a new 50x cdrom into a IBM desktop running win98 for a OS.Every thing works (I can play games,install from cd,etc.)I have sounds (AOL sounds,windows sounds,game sounds)but,when I pop in a cd nothing.I tried media player,cd player,real player no sound.I checked my sound card,the cdrom and they all say they are working properly.Anybody with any ideas?thanks jc

Did you hook up the audio cable from the rom to the soundcard?

In Volume Control, also make sure that the CD volume is up, and that it's not muted.

Yes, definitely get a CD-Audio cable if you don't have one, you need to connect your CD-ROM and sound card directly.
