I was wondering if there was a way to hook two computers together to make something like a supercomputer. I want it to make my speed increase in MHz and possibly on the internet, or atleast I think so. If possible, how do I do that?

And also, is it possible to hook two modems up to you computer where one is reciving part of the info, and the other is reciving another part of the information? I have cable modem, and if so how?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH (:

What your looking for is already available....sorta.

What you can get for a home PC is a dual-processor system. There are servers that run 2, 4, and even 8 processors, but these systems wouldn't run well with Win98--and I'm not sure if Win 2K supports more than 2 processors.

Supposedly, the AMD dual-processor motherboard will support separate RAM banks for each CPU, but I'm not sure of this.

Also, according to a friend of mine, our personal computers today have about as much processing power as a supercomputer built twenty or twenty-five years ago. So take heart! You already own a supercomputer. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Diamond multimedia has offered what they call "Shotgun technology" for a while now. If you have the slots available to install 2 modems or 2 externals, they have the software to make their modems work in tandem. It also takes 2 phone lines, so unless you're out in the boonies where dsl, adsl or cable, etc are not an option, you're better off with those.

it's actually called modem bonding, and windows supports it.. www.mazman.com (http://www.mazman.com) has an article about it...

It works using somthing similar to isdn technology..

BTW: your isp has to support it, and most do not, unfortunately.. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif

I believe running computers in tandem is called a Beowolf system, isn't it? Probably much like the RC5 cracking except these computers must communicate locally. I also believe this was developed at NASA but I'm not sure why they did this instead of having a super computer. The info is out there just do a search.

Windows 2000 Professional will support up to 2 CPU's, and Windows 2000 Server series will support up to 8 CPU's. But ****! I would hate life when it's time to upgrade CPU's, you'd have to upgrade ALL 8 of them! You need to have exact same CPU's to run SMP system, NO mixing CPU's.
