I recently hooked up a cable modem for my computer. I have a second computer in the house that I would like to hook up for internet access.

I'm using a 3Com Etherlink III ISA network interface card to connect to a 3Com cable modem, and the 2 computers aren't networked.

What is the easiest/best way to connect both computers to the cable modem?

Get 2 NIC's and network your pc's. Get some gatway software like Sygate or Wingate and you will be able to share your cable modem between systems without paying for a second IP address. This is very easy to do...When you get everything together E-mail me and I can send you the instructions on setting it up. pray59@home.com

I have the same setup. I went a few steps further, I used an old P233mmx at 266 for a proxy server, with one nic going to a hub and the other to the cable modem. My roommate and I both have our game pc's connected and we connect other pc's to it for patches and downloads. We even occasionally host a small lan party for Q2.

I use Winproxy and Q2faq proxy server software.

It works great... As long as you do have a 2-way cable modem (ie: one that does not use any phone line).

As a benny, I leave the proxy machine on all the time to crank out rc5 blocks, with no worry about damage to my 'big' pc.
