Hey all,

I am getting this weird keyboard glitch where it seems to be doing a hardware reset at random intervals. All the lock keys (scroll, num and caps) light up for a second and I lose functionality for about five-ten seconds. It happens well after the system is booted and whether or not I am actually using anything at the time.
I am running a home-grown AMD-K62 450 with an ALI chipset BCM VP1541 Motherboard with all patches installed. I cruised the (AWARD) bios, but didn't see anything helpful. This is really aggravating. I've had the keyboard for four years with no problems. Thanks ahead of time for any help I can get.

Is it a PS/2 or a 8 pin DIN keyboard? I have had this problem with PS/2 keyboards (keyboard is faulty, like some kind of x wires) but it could be just **** in your keyboard. I would suggest trying to swap the keyboard first.

Get another kbd. It seems as if these Chinese made units, which most are, sometimes give up with little warning.

Mine on a OEM computer ran just about a month, then the machhine started locking up.

I suggested on their forum to add a ground wire from the kbd to the computer frame.

Soon they recalled a bunch of keyboards and they now have a static disharge capability.

I'm sure it wasn't just me who thought of that, it just seemed obvious to me. This occured when a tech asked me if I had carpet in the room with the computer, no.
But this got me thinking and I added a speaker wire to mine and the problems eased and Office Depot kindly gave me a $15 kbd to replace my $5.00 factory junker.

Is yours a Microsoft kbd or What?

In "msconfig" do you have kbdmgr or something similar in the TSR's running(ctl+alt+del)?

After four years the poor thing may be tired http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

let us know.

Thanks for the input. I'll check those options. The reason I didn't think that the keyboard itself was bad was that...well...I am typing on it right now. Again though, this old puppy has logged hundreds and thousands of hours of steady word-thumping. It could probably use a rest.

Oh, and as to the tech questions:
1) Yeah, it's a PS2
2) The keyboard is made by AT&T
3) It was actually made in Thailand
4) No keyboard managers running

Thanks again.
