Been looking for months and wanted it to be a Christmas present,but.....

Celeron 400 Mhz (M6TLI Mother bd)
32Mb RAM( soon to be 128)
6.4 Enhanced IDE Hdd
40x CD ROM w/PCAV tech.
PCI 16bit stereo sound
AGP 2D 3d Graph Accel w/ 4Mb video memory
56 K modem
floppy d
Logitech Wheel mouse
17" monitor
Lexmark 3200 printer.
$939- $100 rebates, $839 plus tax.

I'd like your opinions good or bad!! She's starting college in January and will need one for homework, etc. Corel Word Perfect w/ full CD comes with it as other software. Win 98 2nd edition [ my personal favorite /forum/frown.gif]
If anyone has a website that describes internet sharing, I would surely appreciate it. Wish us luck. thanks /forum/biggrin.gif

MP3's... what's that..don't let on /forum/smile.gif
Games..what games, she's going to school to learn not play. She's already into Bingo and other sorted games. It's all inevitable /forum/biggrin.gif

Well,I set it up last night after I installed the extra RAM ( 128 total now ) and my computer seems like snail mail now. /forum/frown.gif But
when I get my new chip first of the year AMD will rise again /forum/biggrin.gif /forum/biggrin.gif!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations!

Your daughter is very fortunate to have such a progressive and forward thinking parent. Given that her need is mainly educational, I think it’s an excellent system. You’ve got the printer, a nice size monitor; a seventeen-inch monitor, in my humble opinion, should be the minimum size with any new computer purchase.

Word Perfect, I once used only Word Perfect before the dominant reign Word. I’ve been using Star Office (recently purchased by Sun Microsystems) of late; you might want to check it out.

Your only real problem, is keeping her from loading the hard drive with a bunch of games and MP3s!

Regards,

That seems like a GREAT Computer! Only I couldnt live with 32Mb RAM for a second! When you get the chance for that 128 upgrade /forum/smile.gif

Yes star office if great and it is FREE! Who needs all that microsoft stuff crashing your computer anyway.
I wish I had a dad like you. That was a decent deal. I was going to buy one for $550 or $600 from Sams club without the monitor and printer.

JAD1097: The computer alone ,on sale, was
$611.00 plus tax. I bought it at "Cowboys
Maloney's Electric City" I see you're from Tenn. There should be a store somewhere up there. Need to check it out. They had a 466
with 64Mb RAM and a 12Gig Hdd for,I believe
$715.00 on sale. 24 / 7 support with some really smart dudes. Stayed up all one night
formating , reinstalling Win 98, modem, etc.
Guy was aware I didn't know s--t about what was going on, real patient and conciencious.
Everytime I call they are right on the ball. Couldn't ask for more. That's why I bought another one.I've heard so many stories about
lousy tech support and I'm really proud of mine and I don't mind talking about it!!!!!
Good luck in whatever you choice might be /forum/biggrin.gif /forum/biggrin.gif

Hi pickel

That sounds like a great computer for your college-bound daughter. Best wishes to you both, and I'm happy to hear you found a store that gives good tech support in case its needed.

Pickel congrats to the system... but didn't you forget something? The most important thing RC5 cracking for our Sysopt Team. /forum/smile.gif
Be a nice guy and show your daughter how to do that.

Have fun...

If I had known they had great tech support I would have got one. I saved money and built one myself though. Kinda wish I would have went ahead and bought it now!
