how long does an install of win98 take on this abit be6?

well my friends have got this WesternDigital 13.6 ata66 HD and we've been trying to install win98 on it. it seems to not move anywhere. first we've format and then after that windows setup just says it's scanning the HD but we've let it scan for 1 hr. and it seems to be in the same place. is this the dreaded incompatibility of the be6. I've heard these things have tons of probs.

I dont know about the board but the scan should take 2-3 min tops. Something is definitely wrong somewhere. Is this a totally clean install?

If this is a new drive...did you remember to start with "fdisk" to set up partitions, and then "format C: /s" in order to make the drive bootable?

turns out the ata66 controlers are junk!! put it on the ata33 drive and everything is fine. will a bios flash fix the ata66 controllers
