Hello,
Ok, i have a problem that i dont know how to fix. First i'll tell you what i did. Ok, I wasn't getting the perfomance from my vid card as i thought i should. I had installed Quake 2 and seen things slow down in Unreal Tourny. Removal of Q2 failed to resolve the prob.
So, i thought i should remove all the drivers for the card and reinstall it. To do this i was told to boot into safe mode, remove the drivers from control panel, restart and windows would pick it up as found new hardware. This was all correct untill it wanted the location of the driver disk. I had downloaded the latest driver ages back(non new since :O{)and had them in a folder on desktop. It would not install the card using these drivers, so i had to use the cd that came with the card.
Ok, so now my card was working, but it looked funny. I thought i would try another set of drivers i had on a cd i burned awhile back. This cd was placed in the burner, and guess what?, the burner didn't frikkin work!!!.. Arghhhhhhh, i was screaming! Another thing thats happened, is that there is some sort of mouse interfearnce. What i mean by this, is that for example if i wanted to connect to the net with my DUN, i would have to keep the mouse moving for it to connect.. Same when say installing a prog. The progress meter only moves on when i click the mouse or move it.
Ok, im no expert in computers, just an everyday user. But i thought the driver uninstall was easy and would NOT cause these other things to happen.

Ok, now to the biggest question.....Anyone help?..
I tend not to make much sense when trying to explain a problem, but i hope you get the picture here. I could just format, but i need a fair few of the files i have on the computer first. Backing up using the floppy is not an option here with so many files.
Ok, thats all for now. Thanks for your time guys.

Sounds like Q2 installed a lower version of DirectX, I'm sure if you install the latest version of DirectX, it will fix some of your problems.

edit: typo

Nick,
I thought something along those lines, but when instaling Quake 2, i had the option not install it, or it said that a newer version of Direct X was already present. Also, i understant that after updating or reinstalling drivers for a video card, you reinstall D-X anyways. I tried this, but it tells me a newer version is installed and no reinstal;ation will take place. .. Arghhhhhhhhhhh........

Thanks M8 for your time...

Check on the Quake cd (or UT for that matter) for an openGL program. It's a program that checks your chipset and installs the best openGL drivers for your chipset. Also, on directx, the reinstall option will replace any older files only if found. Good luck.

Thxmanu,
Man Utd fan?..Heh, neat, me too......
Ok, i got the burner working again. I checked its properties in Device manager, and all seemed fine. Then, looking at some system info, i fount that auto insert was not checked. I went back to the properties of the burner, and there you have it, not checked. But it WAS the first time i look, and the second and 3rd ect.. That's weird eh?.. Then, i hadda shut off the PC, not just restart. This did the job.

Ok, so burner works, but the graffix are still messy and the screen size seems to be shrinking, i kid you not. No virus found either, and i have the latest updates for my AVP package..Just gonna burn whats needed, then Format..

Cheers, THX M8.
