Pickel, just remember that, music and data back up is best recorded at slow speed, the faster you go the more bumps ,dips and chuckholes. Everything else is preference.
Big $$$$ only will get you broker. Try 2x2xwhatever.

I am just saving up the pennies till i can afford a ricoh 7060. It has got really great reviews and if it is as good as it's little brother the 7040 then i would be happy. Both these drives are meant to some of the best around. I'm just annoyed that i'll have to wait till after christmas to get one!!

Pickel, I've gotta agree with quietinthecorner on this. The speed should be a MINOR consideration on this, as the accuracy & reliability are far more important. Do't let the read speed be a selling point at all, as you'll probably want to use your CD-Rom for normal uasage anyway.
After all, why put "miles" on an expensive burner when a cheap reader will do. Save the CDRW for writing!
BTW, mine is a three year old Sony CD-R, 2x/4x, and it works very reliably. Takes about 45 minutes for a full CD. Doesn't get much use, really. It's one of those things that once the new wore off, I only use it occasionally. Great for backups & file archives.

Here's a good buy on a Smart & Friendly Turbowriter. http://www.buy.com/comp/product.asp?Sku=10215084 for a reasonable price and free shipping. Try http://www.buy.com/promo/89450037.asp for a $20 off coupon if you haven't bought from them before.
The S&F is really a Ricoh in disguise I think.

Pickel,

I recently exchanged my 4x4x24 HP for the newest HP model, which features rates of 8x4x32. It's worked fantastically.

I recently saw the HP USB 4x4x6 model was on sale at Office Max for $219.00. That would be my choice if I where buy one today.

Regards to All,
