Barring any installation of new software and/or hardware (which really isnt an excuse anyways), whats the longest your computer has wrong and not needed a reboot? I think I got up to about a month sometime last year.

HAHA...Great topic....Um, let's see. Since I'm constantly f#$*@ng with my computer, I usually go no longer than oh, maybe 4 hours without a reboot. On days when I actually use the computer and leave the tweaking alone, I can go indefinetly w/out rebooting (My longest is probably 3 weeks)...I just find it so hard not to tweak, that crashes and lockups seem to be a necessary evil....hehe

For my personal system, that would be around a week. I think that's actually decent since I currently running Win98.
I've dealt with some servers that's been up for more than a year, most using linux, a few with NT.

The longest I’ve every gone is around ten days. However that was back in the days of my youth when I ran a local BBS in a non-Windows environment. The longest I’ve had Win98 running is about 96 hours, I think that’s pretty good.
I also know of a couple systems that are pushing probably a year without rebooting.

Good question, actually, a day or two on the home computer, but maybe up to a month at work. I'd have to agree that Win98 seems to cut down the need for perpetual reboot, but I do like that fresh cache response you get from a Restart.

My main system gets rebooted about once a day do to new software installs/tweaking. But my daughters win98 machine has been running now for about 40 or 50 days 24/7 (cracking rc5 for her dad! she loves me /forum/smile.gif Mom keeps trying to get her to crunch seti but she wont!) she plays on the net nightly and does her homework papers on it to so it does get used. and my Win2k rc2 system has been up for 18 days now and would have been around 50 or so if I had not killed it to pull a modem out of it.

Ah! Yes, this is a good one.
My P233 has been running 24/7 since She started crunching RC5 on 10.02.1999.
My main machine (PIII 450 @527) gets rebooted often as I'm installing patches, updating, installing/uninstalling something or other on a frequent basis. Other than that He runs 24/7 for RC5 also and my last reboot was due to a BSOD about 10 days ago. /forum/smile.gif

Motorola SM56 modem internal
Microcom 28.8S external
Diamond Supra Express external
Analog Devices(ADI) Combo(modem + sound) internal
ATX Full tower w/ 3 4cm exhaust fans, 4 4cm intake fans, 1 powersupply exhaust fan(I revised the casing to meet the requirments)
128 MB of SDRAM(Siemens)
D-link Ethernet adapter
4.3 GB HDD (MAXTOR)
Windows NT 4.0 sp4

Well my main computer Cel366@458 is rebooted around every 4 or 5 hrs due to patches, installs, crashes (becoming more rare), and constant need to flush the swap file.
But my laptop with Mandrake Linux have been around 1 1/2 or 2 weeks without rebooting, just suspended when need to take it a long way /forum/smile.gif
My home computer is usually up for two or three days at a time then I reboot, because rc5 seems to slow down with time. I have an emachine 333 at work, that we put nt 4 ws on that has been running since march without a reboot.

I usually turn on my computer in the morning, leave it on all day, and turn it off at about 12:00 at night... Or is that in the morning? Oh well...

Every 2 weeks or so, I need to reboot my Win98 machine, while the NT4 sytems normally get rebooted once a month.
My old P75 with Win95 hasn't been rebooted since late August. This remarkable stability is due to one overwhelming factor: that I haven't turned the thing on since late August. /forum/wink.gif

For us Win98 slave... users, you need to ask how long its been since we've crashed our machines... two weeks! Rebooted last two months ago. Technically, after a machine crashes, its a cold boot, right?

My pent 233 at work went for 8 months then died, never to be rebooted again(board fried to a nice black color with minor arcs and sparks). I believe it had something to do with a soda that was spilled on it by a co-worker and they forgot to tell me about it(or so they say)....Most of my pII 333 go for 3-6 months.

My dads computer a P133 can go for about 1 month to a month and a half without a reboot. My computer (Celeron 433@650) generally needs to be rebooted about every 2-3 days. Its usually my fault when I have to reboot though.... when my computer was running Red Hat I didn't reboot it for 5 months!
Well,I was on my 5th week but, when I tried to post my machine crashed and now I am at 2 hours! /forum/frown.gif

Often i can make 2 weeks, but even more often i'll be rebooting every 4-6 hours.I just formatted because it was crashing too much, but now it's doing the same stuff, should i get win98se. I download almost every update from windows update, and i don't really have super new hardware, is there a need for se??
