Well this has me stumped. My old PS/2 mouse went to mouse heaven http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif .Oh well so I got a USB MS intellimouse plugged it up and Bam it is working... everything is fine until I start playing counter-strike(half-life)..every 10 secs my screen pauses for a sec.. like a jerk. It did not do this before I had the USB mouse. I barrowed my friends PS/2 mouse and half-life ran fine no pauses. But I hook up the USB mouse and bam the problem comes back. I downloaded the new drivers from microsoft but does the same thing.. and suggestions?

Does your mouse have a readme.txt file in program files and your folder for the mouse. If so it should tell you something about troubleshooting. Check it out.
My Logitech Mouse does in the Program Files\Logitech\Mouseware\readme.txt

This is the Intellimouse Explorer or Optical, right?
If so, they should have come with a USB to PS/2 adapter. If you can't find a solution (sorry, I don't know), you should just plug that guy on there and....magic! you have a PS/2 mouse. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

Check to see if your USB root hub is sharing an IRQ with something. Try to configure it so it has its own IRQ.
