Good morning, my operating system is Windows 98 second edition, I've just installed a 8x DVD ROM Drive the brand is Raite Optoelectronics, I have a SiS 5597/5598 Chipset Adapter as my on board video card, the drive reads the DVD when I loaded, but doesn't play, do I need a decoder card for this DVD brand or do I have to download some drivers Codecs or specific Microsoft Software to be able to play my DVD's? I appreciate any feedback how can I resolve it.
Thanks very much,
Eduardo
do you have a software player installed if you dont you will need one and power dvd is the best for software playback if you haqve a fast sys as 400 mhz or better other wise you will need to get a decoder
give some specs on you sys
The device itself will be read correctly upon booting. But until software is installed to play DVD movies, the thing is just a CD ROM.
I have an ATI card, which supports DVD through hardware. But I still had to install the software for the DVD player.

Yeah, you'll have to install a software decoder or buy a decoder card.
Please post system specs so we can tell you which one to do.
