Computer will not boot up!!!!!

My friends computer will not boot up. An error message says that there is a sector damaged. is there anything that i can do to help him out. windows will not boot up and scan disk will not fix the prob.

The HDD manufacturer may have a utility that will fix the damaged sector. To salvage the data, it might be necessary to connect the drive as a slave in another computer and transfer whatever can be saved. Then run the fixit.
