I have to find out if it is still possible to upgrade the memory of an old branded PC - Solar Pentium. When I open the PC cover, the Memory chip says "M.tec 00137 etc"

With a bit of research, Solar Pentium is manufactured by Micronics, http://www.micronics.com
But it doesn't work.

So does anyone know if i could still upgrade the memory of this PC?

as a general rule, you can upgrade memory provided you have memory modules with the same pin configurations.

Sometimes there are BIOS limitations which prohibit the system for using memory above a certain threshhold.

I would e-mail customersupport@diamondmm.com (as Diamond MultiMedia bought Micronics) and ask them about the motherboard in question. I'm assuming that your mmotherboard is from micronics (they supply gateway etc).

checking with the motherboard manufacturer while specifying the model of motherboard is always the best way to find out if you can upgrade. Sometimes there is a "BIOS flash" available to upgrade the amount of memory that the motherboard will be able to use.

If you put in multiple modules that run at different speds, place the slowest modules in slot 1 of the memory slots as often this slot is used to determine and then configure the motherboard for the speed of memory bus. While it is possible to run memory chips as less than their speed capacity, you cannot exceed that limit.

If it is a Micronics system board, this URL should help too: http://www.micronics.com/index2.html
