Hi,
Tried to install Win 2k to my PC (hard disk 10.2GB Western Digital). After the installation creates a partition and formats it it says that my HD is corrupted and the installation is aborted!
I tried it with Pro and Advanced Server and it made no difference. I also change M/B and CPU and the same! The hard disk was unpartitioned and with a clean MBR.
Anyone can help? Please, any suggestions welcome. I'm going to become crazy!!
If you can try another hd it will eliminate one reason for the message eg:your hd is bad
cheers, skai

Hi skai,
(btw welcome to SysOpt and thanks for the answer) http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif
I have already tried with another hard disk without any problems. That was a Seagate 6.4GB. The weird is that Win98 and NT will install on my 10.2GB hard disk without complaining about my HD being corrupted.
This makes me think that Win 2000 have problem handling hard disks bigger than 8.4GB!
DOES ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCE ON INSTALLING 2000 ON A DISK 10.2GB OR MORE?
Thanks for any replies...
Hi
W2K has no problem with big HD.
I have installed it on a 20Gb HD - one big NTFS partition - no problem.
Have you tried the following: using fdisk (or partition magic), create the partitions (minimum 2Gb for OS only).
Do not format them.
Boot the PC using w2k cd-rom and see if it can "see" and format the partition !
Hope that helps

Hi,
Thanks Stan but already done so http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif and after Win 2000 setup formated the HD it check for 2 seconds for errors and then says that it perfomed maintenance on my HD and that I have to restart, but nothing is repaired!
Is there any possibility I actually have a damaged HD and Win 9x and NT 4.0 are so dumb that cannot discover the problem and 2000 are so smart that only THEY can find the problem? It is weird...
Was the 20GB HD a Western Digital? I suspect that WD may have combatibility problems with Win 2000.
Any ideas?
Hi
Nope, at work, we are using IBM HD.
Had another idea: how about installing Win98 first and see if you can install Win2000 for a dual boot config...
Stan
I have a similar problem when i change my MB, W2k say my partition is bad AND destroy my W98 partition (for luck i use Ghost, so it's only 20 min. lost). I use scandisk 10 times from W98 and never found an error on my HD, but w2k continue to destroy my partitions.I go to MS site and found that i must press a Fx (F7 or F8, not the Function key displayed on the screen for SCSI Driver) key when W2k installation reboot to a blue screen and ask for other drivers (at beginning) to disable ACPI as it don't work well. And now it's ok
My sys
Athlon 800Mhz
Asus K7V
256 Mb PC133
I have a problem (BSOD) when installing W2k with the USB HUB of my monitor, I need to disable USB Support in the BIOS of my MB (now I'm waiting for the SP of W2k)

Hi buitenb,
I first posted that the problem was solved by disabling the ACPI function, but it finally came that my HD was blown up. I deleted that post as soon as I discovered that the problem had nothing to do with the ACPI.
Sorry to all guys that saw my wrong post http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/frown.gif
I will have my HD replaced this week. Bye!
