I recently installed a program call netsonic <www.netsonic.com> that is supposed speed up your browsing. After I installed this program my Outlook, Instant Messenger, Napster, Elite ftp, and Netscape ceased to work the only program that still works Internet Explorer. Netscape is giving an error of the server doesn't have a DNS entry, Instant Messenger says the AIM service can't be reached, etc. I am using Win 98, and on a network with a DSL line. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

ANTRA

UNinstall the Netsonic software.
Control Panel----> Add/Remove Programs find netsonic in the list and remove it.
Anyway these programs that are suposed to speed up your web don't work at all, you're better of wothout it.

Try using your Version Conflict Manager.

Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information.
In the toolbar click on Tools.
Click on Version Conflict Manager.

you will see Current Version to the far right and just to the left you will see the Backed Up Version.
the Version # to the right should be of a more current version.
If it isn't then click on the name to the far left to highlight and hit the Restore Selected Files.

I have never heard of netsonic doing such a thing to someones computer. Goethe is somewhat right. It isn't a necessary program and it does speddup your browsing by caching pages and graphics from a page you visit. I believe it is set by default to cache 30Megs. Windows can do this as well with not emptying your Tempory Internet file folder upon exiting your browser. If you want faster browsing I suggest that you do some registry work. If you are good with the Registry or have a friend that is able to navigate the registry, go to the links below and optimize your Internet settings and your modem.

I still have the same promblem. There were no version conflicts. I received an email from the Netsonic's tech people they told me to:
---------------------------------------------
First write these down. These are some of the Netsonic =
apps.=20

Netsonic,
sonicCache
Web3000,=20
Gator.

Use the=20
Find - command
Type each of the name above -
Delete the file(s)

Do the same in the Registry.

After finish cleaning the system/Registry.

Re-install all the apps that don't work.=20
Un-install them if they don't work.
Then re-install them again.
---------------------------------------------

This also didn't work. If anyone has any other ideas that might help please let me know.

Thanks,

Antra

just for future reference, netsonic uses a proxy server (because apparently their server is faster than your local one?).

wish i'd seen this post before this, but hey.... you got it fixed!

netsonic is just a cache memory, all it does it store the web sites in a cache, which makes it seem faster ,you still have to refresh the site.the only way to truly speed up your internet surfing is get some type of broadband access.
