If you want your soundcard to work in DOS configure it in DOS through the config.sys file.

It sound like you configured the SB and the IRQ for the parallel port (lpt1) was used. Does lpt1 still exist in Device Mangler, and does it have any conflicts?

If the lpt1 is gone from device mangler, then see if you can add one. If you can't delete the SB DOS emu, and then add lpt1.

On next boot Winders may try to install the SB DOS emu (just let it). You can then go in to Device mangler again and disable from the current profile.

qball: in device mangler, if i delete the profile for the emu, it automatically reloads, **** this PnP sh**. also i have looked everywhere and not been able to find a way reinstall or add the parallel port back. i dont want to redo win98 b/c i just did a format and install of it about 2 times last week and finally got the hdd set up the way i like it. i have a printer card that came out of an old old system that i really dont want to use but will if i have too. any other tricks to fix it back up? i cant wait to get my server up and runnin with linux

Do a safe mode boot and do the following;

1. Delete the all the sound card devices that show up

2. Delete the LPT port that appears there.

3. If you have any duplicate entries under the rest of the devices, delete both of them.

Reboot and let windows redetect them. That should get back you LPT1. Let us know what happens.
